Adaptation Station – Kindergarten

Kindergarten: “Adaptation Station” – This program explores the many ways in which birds are adapted for survival in Jackson Hole and beyond.  We will explore weather patterns, how humans use birds for survival (i.e. – down coats) and what we can do to help birds in our own backyard get through all types of extreme weather and seasons.  Live raptors, activities/games appropriate for a variety of learners, and FUN are a part of every TRC program.

NGSS: K-LS1-1, KESS2-1, K-ESS2-2, K-ESS3-1, K-ESS3-2, K-ESS3-3

Cross Cutting Concepts: (LS1-1) Patterns in the natural and human designed works can be observed and used as evidence.  (ESS2-1) Patterns in the natural world can be observed, used to describe phenomena, and used as evidence). (ESS2-2) Systems in the natural and designed world have parts that work together. (ESS3-2, 3) Events have causes that generate observable patterns. (ESS3-1) Systems in the natural and designed world have parts that work together.

Disciplinary Core Ideas: (LS1-1) Plants and animals need food, water and sunlight to live and grow.  (ESS1-1, 2) Weather patterns are observable. Plants and animals can change their environment and the choices humans make can affect the world around them, but there are things we can do to reduce our impact.  (ESS3-1, 2, 3) Living things need water, air and resources to survive, weather patterns can be predicted through forecasts and help humans prepare and there are things people can do to live more comfortably in a given area, and there are choices humans can make to reduce their impacts on animals with their choices.

Practices of Science: Making observations, using observations to interpret data, asking questions, developing and using models, and communicating information

Vocabulary: air, food, heat, shelter, space, water, temperature, cold, rainy, sunny, snowy, warm, windy, feathers, down, cavity, migration, camouflage

Who Any student, any age - we recommend keeping group size small (i.e. - class rather than assembly) so that we can get to know each group and engage in hands-on activities.
What Life Science Lessons, K-5, using live raptors as the “hook”. We can adapt any of the programs listed here to a virtual platform!
When We are available year round - most flexible from October 1 - June 1
Where We can come to you! Programs are available anytime, virtually, indoors or outside. Call to inquire about our virtual and in-person opportunities! We will work to meet your needs and bring our fun experiential programs to you in the best and safest way possible.
Why Teton Raptor Center uses science every day. We are here to help students draw the connection between concepts and application. We bring the textbook to life. Our education team is ready to work directly with you to ensure our programs are meeting all of your expectations and needs. All STEAM subject areas are incorporated into our lessons.
