‘Egg’-cellent Energy for Everyone – 4th Grade

“Egg-cellent Energy for Everyone” 4th Grade:– The Earth is a machine which can produce energy on a magnitude hard to comprehend.  Humans have discovered ways to harness this energy in renewable and non-renewable ways (ESS3-1). This program is an opportunity to compare the pros and cons of many energy sources (ESS3-2).  We will then take this information, look at it from the wildlife perspective (not just as humans) and see if there is anything we can do in our lives every day to benefit everyone longterm. Live raptors, activities/games appropriate for a variety of learners, and FUN are a part of every TRC program.

NGSS: 4-ESS3-1, 4-ESS3-2

Cross Cutting Concepts: (ESS3-1) Cause and effect relationships are routinely identified and used to explain change. (ESS3-2) These relationships can also be tested and used to explain change.

Disciplinary Core Ideas: (ESS3-1) Energy and fuels that humans use are derived from natural resources, and their use affects the environment in multiple ways.  Some resources are renewable over time, and others are not. (ESS-2) A variety of hazards result from natural processes. Humans cannot eliminate the hazards, but can take steps to reduce their impacts.

Practices of Science: Constructing explanations and designing solutions, obtaining, evaluating and communicating information

Vocabulary:  renewable, non-renewable, wind, solar, water, fossil fuels, pollution, reclamation
