Meat, Beak, Feet…. and Seeds? – 2nd Grade

2nd Grade (2 of 2): “Meat, Beak, Feet… and Seeds?” – Raptors are powerful predators.  They can do everything a tiger can do… and they can fly!  But, raptors also fill a critical role in helping disperse seeds for plants through secondary seed dispersal.  Without birds, many plants would be in quite the pickle to get their seeds circulating around the landscape. This program goes beyond raptors to help students gain a deep appreciation for birds and what they do to keep our ecosystems running smoothly.  Live raptors, activities/games appropriate for a variety of learners, and FUN are a part of every TRC program.

NGSS: 2-LS2-1, 2, LS2-2

Cross Cutting Concepts:  (LS2-1) Events have causes that generate observable patterns. (LS2-2) The shape and stability of structures of natural and designed objects are related to their function(s).

Disciplinary Core Ideas: (LS2-2) Plants depend on animals for pollination or to move their seeds around. (LS2-1) Plants depend on water and light to grow.

Practices of Science: Modeling, planning and carrying out investigations

Vocabulary: food, sunlight, survival, oxygen, photosynthesis, variable, disperse, pollen, reproduce, transfer, benefit, mutualism, predator
