Teton 5th
A 3 day/ 2 night residential program for Teton County 5th graders based on the Kelly Campus of TSS. This program is customized for students and teachers based on TCSD goals and priorities. Historically we’ve focused on natural communities, adaptations, and field research practices.
Cross Disciplinary Concepts: Patterns can be used as evidence to support an explanation. A system can be described in terms of its components and their interactions. Similarities and differences in patterns can be used to sort, classify, communicate, and analyze simple rates of change for natural phenomena.
Vocabulary: solid, liquid, gas, matter, mixture, physical change, volume, weight, air, carbon dioxide, chlorophyll, ecosystem, energy, nutrient, oxygen, photosynthesis, plant, root, soil, stem, axis, direction, orbit, position, rotation, shadow, resource, ocean, land, industry, agriculture, renewable
Science Standards This Program Meets
5-ESS1-2 Earth’s Place in the Universe
- Grade: 5th Grade
- Discipline: Earth & Space Science
Represent data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky.
More Programs

About Teton Science Schools
Teton Science Schools inspires curiosity, engagement, and leadership through transformative place-based education. Our approach to teaching and learning challenges learners engage with their communities through the lenses of ecology, economy, and culture to promote a more robust understanding of issues that affect them and their community. We combine classroom-based education with field based education and educator development to maximize the impact of our programs. We serve 12,000 participants annually from all around the country and abroad. Field Education mostly service 4th grade through adult in a residential setting and students from 1st grade and up through non-residential programs.

Why | Our programs challenge students to think critically about their surroundings and the issues that affect communities in various scales and scope. This place-based approach promotes student engagement in learning and develops their capacity to be leaders within their own community. At a time when people are increasingly disengaged from their surrounds, this approach is very important to building a more engaged and just society. |
